OPI Cuckoo For This Color

OPI Cuckoo For This Color came out with OPI's Swiss collection in 2010. I've been completely obsessed with this color lately as I think it's perfect for winter weather and am happy to know that this color is actually a permanent part of the OPI's line. It's an elegant, shimmering emerald green with teal/blue tones to it.

Seriously, how gorgeous is that? I love how dark and rich it is...but not so dark that it looks more black than green. I really think this color would be flattering on anyone!
Application is wonderful--two coats and it was completely opaque and smooth. I've never gone through a bottle of nail polish before, but if I ever went through this one I would definitely repurchase!!

What nail polish are you wearing at the moment?! Do you like wearing greens and teals?
Also, Happy Halloween!!!!

Peacock Halloween Look

Happy (almost) halloween!! As much fun as it is to wear different costumes and dress up, I'm not really someone who goes all out for halloween. I usually try to put together an outfit from my closet and if I need to, buy some sort of easy to find mask or headband with cat ears (in previous years!). I had a halloween party to attend tonight and decided to dress up as a peacock! I bought a TON of peacock feathers (for very cheap) on ebay to put in my hair and already had some peacock earrings and a turquoise sweater ;) The makeup is the most fun part of halloween anyway, right? That's what I focused on for my look!

Rock & Republic (R&R) Ambition on inner corner, R&R Chronic on lower lashline, Mac Shimmermoss on lid, Mac Birds and Berries on outer lid, Mac Humid on outer-v, Mac Nocturnelle in crease/outer-v, Nars Nouveau Monde in crease, Right side of Nars Demon Lover on outer-v.

I used bobby pins to keep the peacock feathers in place!

Hope you like the peacock inspired look!! If you're like me and are a bit lazy with halloween costumes, definitely go all out with your makeup! Let me know in the comments what you're planning to do for halloween or if you're planning to do some crazy makeup!?!!

Light Neutral Golds with Vanilla and Voyage

Here's a look that I did with Mac's Vanilla Pigment and Nars Voyage (which I got in trades and was very eager to use!). I always love shimmery neutral looks and this is definitely a favorite of mine. It's especially perfect when you have no idea what you want to wear on the rest of your face!

Target Beauty Bag

I just wanted to do a quick post on the Target Beauty Bag that was available for a certain number of people back in August (for free!!!). At the time I hurried to the site and hoped that I was one of the lucky ones to get one! Finally, I got mine in the mail today! This is the second time this year that they've done the free Target beauty bag, so I'm crossing my fingers they will continue to have them!

Here's what was inside...

There's three different shampoo & conditioner samples, a mini Burt's Bees Radiance Day Lotion, L'oreal Youth Code cream, and Pond's wet cleansing towlettes. I was hoping it would have makeup samples (like a lipgloss or mascara or something!) but I'm definitely not complaining--I love getting samples and especially love when they're free! I'm especially looking forward to trying the Pond's towlettes!
In addition to the beauty samples, there is a little coupon booklet with "over $20" in savings. There's savings like: $1 off Sonia Kashu, $1 off Burt's Bees, $1 Sally Hansen, and much, much more!

I was really excited about the little makeup bag, it's really cute!!

I'm actually in need of a new little makeup bag to throw in my purse since the zipper on my current one broke. This one is perfect! It can fit lipstick, powder, lipgloss, eyeliner, etc.

When the time comes for the next free Target Beauty Sample Bag signup, make sure to check
I'll try to remember to do a post when I hear about the next time they have it!!

Have any of you gotten a Target beauty bag before?? What do you think of the samples?!

More Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters (part 2!)

With more coupons in hand I couldn't resist picking up a few more of the Revlon colorburst lip butters while they were additionally on sale. You can see a more in depth review of them in my previous post HERE.
I thought I'd put up more pictures and swatches so you can see more of the colors they have.

L-R Strawberry Shortcake, Pink Truffle, Red Velvet

I just love these lip butters so much. Strawberry Shortcake is a really gorgeous midtone pink--it's slight warm toned but because of the sheer, glossy texture i really love the way it looks on my warmer skin. Pink Truffle is a great "my lips but better" pink-brown, though it definitely shows up more medium pink on my lips. Lastly, Red Velvet is a gorgeous crimson/cranberry red and absolutely perfect for fall.

all of the ones i have!
Strawberry Shortcake, Pink Truffle, Red Velvet, Cherry Tart, Berry Smoothie, Creamsicle

Oh Revlon, how I love you so. Hope these swatches and pics were helpful! Let me know what you think about them or which colors you'd like to try the most!

A look at Revlon's New Colorburst Lip Butters!

As you can tell from reading my blog, I absolutely looooove Revlon's lip products. I just think they are fantastic quality and definitely a step up from many other drugstore lip products! So I was really excited to see that Revlon has come out with a new lip product called Colorburst Lip Butters. Naturally, I had to try them. Here's three that I got on my little excursion to Rite Aid...

Aren't they cute? As you can see, the packaging is really similar to the regular colorburst lipsticks  that i love as well (click HERE to see my post on them). They have the same quilted pattern as the lipsticks, but the plastic is see-through and the top is completely clear so you can see the color of the lipstick. That aspect of the packaging was particularly helpful when I was choosing what colors to buy since you can't swatch them in drugstores! I think the packaging is definitely cute and most importantly, simple and functional.

From Left to Right: Creamsicle, Cherry Tart, Berry Smoothie
The lip butters also don't have a typical lipstick shape. As you can see in the photo, it's rounded and not pointed like most lipsticks. I personally don't mind this, but some people may find they need to be a little more careful with application!
Here's some swatches:

The three colors I got from left to right are Creamsicle, Cherry Tart, and Berry Smoothie. I had so much trouble picking out just a few because there were a ton of colors!! I should have taken a picture of the display, but there were at least 10 different colors.
Creamsicle is a really pretty peachy nude (it looks most flattering on me with one sheer layer!). Cherry Tart is a really, really wearable bright red. Berry Smoothie is a light purpley-pink berry color. The names are obviously name accurate!

Pigmentation is really excellent for a product that claims to be a lip balm. All three of the lip butters I got can really pack a lot of color with a couple of swipes. I do like that the color is really buildable--you can wear it as a tint with one swipe or as a vibrant color with little effort. Because it's buildable, it's also difficult to mess up ;)

Texture is fantastic. If you think the Revlon colorburst and superlustrous lipsticks are comfortable on your lips, these are even moreso!! The difference as a lip butter is that they feel much more moisturizing (and if I recall from the display they claim they contain things like coco & shea butter! Will have to double check the exact ingredients though). In the end though I don't think they add much moisture (like a lip balm) but they also don't make my lips dry personally. They also look very shiny on your lips. If you are a matte lipstick girl or don't like shiny lips, these probably aren't going to be your favorite product. I personally love the creamy, texture and the look of shiny lips. Basically, I think they're sort of in between a typical lip balm and a lipstick. As far as scent goes, they have a faint sweet smell but it doesn't linger at all.

I haven't had them for very long (just a day!) but so far I am really loving them. I found they wore really nicely and sort of faded after a few hours on me. I have a tendency to smoosh my lips and reapply lip balm type of products often though, so I can't tell for sure how long they last on the lips! If you wan't vibrant, all day color I doubt you could go an entire day without reapplication.

I found them at my Rite Aid... I believe they are $7.50 but they were 40% off, making them a total steal!! I personally wouldn't buy them at full price just because you can always find discounts at drugstores! Bravo Revlon for another fantastic product!! They are absolutely worth trying out.

Let me know what you think of them or if you'd like any comparison swatches in the comments!

Demon Lover Lavender Eyes

I acquired the Nars duo in Demon Lover in a trade recently and thought I'd post the first look I did with it. I had to work a bit more with blending since they are more on the matte side, but I still love the texture and especially the color! The duo comes with a blue lavender and matte plummy purple...definitely a cohesive duo since the colors match so well together! I'll post full swatches and pictures of it soon! Here's the look I did with it...

Lighter side of Nars Demon Lover (blue) on the lid, dark purple in the crease, Nars Dogon (left side) in outer-v, Nars Absynnia to highlight

Darn the lovejoy isn't really showing true to color here! It's a bit darker; more of dusty bronzey rose!

Laura Mercier Face Primer
Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Medium Ivory (LOVE this!! will do a post on it soon!)
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage
Laura Mercier Translucent Powder
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
Nars Lovejoy Blush

Anastasia Brow Powder in Brunette
Nars Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Primer

Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Gloss in S2 (was a sephora deluxe sample! Light nude beige).

Hope you like this look! I really think these colors would be flattering on any eye color, they're such wearable purples!

Nars Cairo Swatches & Comparison to Ashes to Ashes

As you've probably noticed from reading my blog, I am a HUGE fan of Nars Cosmetics (especially their eyeshadows and blushes). I recently acquired a Nars Palette that includes the popular taupe, Nars Ashes to Ashes and realized it is very similar to a Nars shadow I already own, Cairo. As much as I love to collect makeup to use, one thing I really dislike is having duplicates of colors in my stash---it's just a personal preference and helps me limit the amount of makeup I own since I avoid buying the same colors.

And now, Nars Cairo...
Nars Describes it as a "champagne rose with shimmer"

Here's some swatches of the lovely Nars Cairo with some other taupe shadows to compare!

As you can see from the swatches, in comparison to Cairo, thebalm is a much cooler taupe while Mac Satin Taupe is darker and has more plummy undertones.

On my skin, Cairo is a shimmery sand color with a hint of rose. As you can see, Ashes to Ashes is very, very similar. Ashes to Ashes is only slightly darker with a hint more of brown. On my lid you can hardly tell the difference between them, but I do find Ashes to Ashes to be a bit more pigmented.

If you're in the market for a light taupe, Cairo is a very pretty color and I can see it working on lots of skin tones, especially fair tones. However, I will say that I definitely prefer Ashes to Ashes just because I find that it's slightly more pigmented and I do have to layer Cairo a lot to get it to show up on my eyes. I'm planning to sell my Nars Cairo simply because I find it much too similar to Ashes to Ashes to own both. I'd definitely recommend swatching the colors in person to see which one you prefer. The Nars formula is just wonderful--the eyeshadow applies smoothly and blends nicely, so they are certainly worth  checking out in my opinion!

Hope this was helpful for anyone curious about Nars Cairo. Also, does anyone hate the idea of buying dupes of colors you already own or am I just crazy!? :)
