OPI You Don't Know Jacques!

This nail color may not be everyone's cup of tea--it's not exactly a color you would call pretty or girly. I had certainly assumed it was not a color for me. However, I must admit that now, after wearing it, I'm a bit obsessed with OPI You Don't Know Jacques! There is definitely a reason that this color is a cult classic in the beauty world!

OPI You Don't Know Jacques is dark and chic grey-taupe and in my opinion, one of the most perfect neutral shades! It goes with anything and I can't help but feel stylish and elegant whenever I wear this polish! It's the perfect blend of warm chocolate and grey.

Surprisingly flattering, You Don't Know Jacques is up there with my favorite winter shades. I'm not sure I would wear this in the spring and summer (especially because I prefer to wear bright or vibrant colors during that time) so now is the perfect time to wear this shade.

Application is smooth and quick thanks to the OPI brushes (they are quite big and cover the nail in 2 easy swipes). This color also wore surprisingly well--literally lasted a week with hardly any touchups! Can't say enough good things about it!! I bought mine at Ulta but I'm sure you'd be able to find it at places where OPI nail polish is sold!

Do you like wearing neutral shades like brown, nude, or taupe on your nails?!

Dirty Teal Smokey Eye

Here's a messy smokey eye I did using some earthy, matte colors. I wish the teal around the eye photographed better--it's much more vibrant in person! Maybe it's time to upgrade my camera?  Love how simple it was to do as well--only two colors and a highlight!

Do you like wearing smokey eyes during daytime? I don't find this too dramatic but I definitely like smokey eyes ALL the time lol!!

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

As you can see from reading my blog, Laura Mercier is one of my favorite brands for face products. I love her concealers, translucent powder, mineral foundation, and especially the oil-free tinted moisturizer which I wear for my everyday makeup. I'd been wanting to try a foundation that had a little more coverage than a tinted moisturizer for special occasions or nights when I want my skin to look "perfect." I've always hated the feeling of heavy foundations so I thought my attempt to something with more coverage than a tinted moisturizer would be hopeless. That was until I tried Laura Mercier's Silk Creme Foundation...
Packaging is a simple squeeze tube. Perfect and easy to use!
My shade is Medium Ivory!
As a preface, I have combo/oily, acne prone skin. I don't really like the look of matte foundation on my skin so my goal for foundation is to look glowy without looking greasy. I also have a bit of redness in my cheeks and acne scarring, so that's something I like to have covered up. Silk Creme does an incredible job of making my skin look flawless and healthy. It is considered a full coverage foundation, but it is really buildable in my opinion (especially if you use a little to start with). It covers up any imperfections I have and evens out with my skintone, all without feeling heavy on my skin. I don't know how it does it, but it almost melts into my skin. I HATE the feeling of foundation sitting on top of my skin, but this one really blends in effortlessly and feels like nothing. Incredible. Despite the heavier coverage, it really looks natural! I also love the finish of this foundation--it's more of a satin finish. I always set my foundation with translucent powder to keep my tzone/chin from getting oily--despite mattifying with powder, it still looks glowy and doesn't make me oily.
This is literally the amount I use for my entire face! It looks too yellow toned here but it really blends into my skintone perfectly.
Another great thing about this foundation is you need the tiniest amount to cover your whole face/neck. It's so pigmented and easy to blend that one pea size amount goes a long way.
To apply, I dot it a few times on my cheeks, chin, forehead and nose, and then blend with either my Mac 187 brush (skunk brush! Sonia Kashuk makes one I like as well!) or Sephora #55 brush. I get a light, blended finish from both brushes. One thing to remember with this foundation is to make sure to not use too much or it will get cakey!! Less is more with Silk Creme! Dot first, blend, and then add more little by little you even need it. Lastly, don't forget to shake well before using it to make sure the consistency is together and product is not separated when it comes out (since it is water based).

Two things I don't like about this foundation, yet aren't deal breakers for me are the price and smell. Silk Creme has a weird, slightly synthetic smell that I can't quite describe. It's not horrible but it's not the most appealing scent in my opinion. Luckily it goes away less than a minute after applying--this is something I can overlook easily so I personally don't mind it. As for the price, it retails for around $42. Definitely not the most expensive foundation on the market, but it's quite pricey to me. However, I genuinely think this foundation is worth every single penny. I personally like to wait for coupon codes or sales before I buy products so I doubt I will ever pay full price for it (for example, Sephora 20% friends and family sale, sometimes has deals as well. etc). It is definitely worth the money. Also, I'd try to get to a Sephora or Laura Mercier counter to get the perfect match for your skintone--you can also ask for a sample first to see how you like it on you!

Here's a few FOTD posts where I'm wearing this foundation:
1, 2, 3

I hope I covered the important points of this foundation but please let me know if you have any other questions! To me, this is the foundation I use when I want my skin to look completely flawless--not so much for my everyday makeup where I want the skin to peek through more. What foundation do you like to use for special occasions? Any Silk Creme fans out there!?!? I love it!

I've been obsessed with greens lately--more specifically olive green. I just bought this new olive scarf so I thought I'd do a champagne eye with a touch of green to compliment it! I also wanted to play around with my new L'oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Iced Latte. It makes the most perfect shimmery lid color and it goes with any color! Here's my post of those eyeshadows if you're curious: here!

Zoya Jem

Ahhh Zoya Jem is one of my favoriteeeee colors ever. Zoya describes Jem as: "A dark red-toned purple base with metallic dark pink highlights and subtle gold duochrome flecks. This shade has it all; bold color, vampy drama, bright sparkle and a glam rock persona."

Yep. It's pretty much the most gorgeous deep plum with a bit of pink and red to it. For some reason I couldn't capture the red undertones to it that appear in person--it's more unique than the deep purple pictures below.

2 Coats for perfection. It's definitely a polish I would recommend trying if you like jewel toned colors on your nails!

Reviva Labs Makeup Primer Review and giveaway (CLOSED)!!!!

A while ago I was contacted by Anna from Reviva Labs to review one of their most popular products, the Reviva Labs Makeup Primer. I was very excited because I've always been curious about Reviva Labs--I've seen their products at my nearby Ulta and Whole Foods Market.

Some quick information on Reviva Labs that I gathered from their site that I found interesting:
-"For over 38 Years Reviva Labs has been producing all natural skin-care products that help leave your skin healthier and more youthful-looking."
-"No animal testing! Before it was even an issue (way back in 1973), we announced the testing of our products in skin-care salons rather than on animals"
-The first to introduce exfoliation to america...with our European LIGHT SKIN PEEL
(We were explaining the importance of exfoliation years before the cosmetics giants introduced their versions)

Now onto the Makeup Primer. It is a silicone based primer that is not only fragrance free but also packed with some pretty good things for your skin, like COQ10 (a protective antioxidant), olive oil, vitamin D3 and vitamin A. If you're new to primers, makeup primers are essentially a base for your makeup. Primers should smooth your skin out so your makeup can apply easily and hopefully make your makeup last longer as well. This primer did all that and more!

How to use: " Apply over moisturizer or instead of moisturizer. Lines fill in, pores are concealed, excess oil is controlled. Skin so touchable, so silky smooth, you will find it hard to believe."
I literally do one pump for a pea sized amount and it is enough to cover my entire face. I always apply right after my skincare routine and before I apply any foundation or concealer.

I love the packaging. The primer comes in a small bottle with a pump. I love that it is in a pump instead of in a squeeze tube or tub. It's hygenic and one pump yields the perfect amount!
Ingredients! I love that it's paraben free!
I LOVE this primer. With any new makeup product, I'm always worried that something new will cause my skin to breakout. I've also experienced breakouts from silicone based primers in the past (such as Smashbox) so I did not have the highest expectations. I was VERY wrong!! I'm pleased to report that I did not break out or experience any irritation from this primer! It claims to be non-comedogenic and is fragrance free, so it didn't clog my pores or cause me to break out! One thing to note is how nice it is to see a simple ingredients list that isn't pages long lol!

I've also found that it really does help my makeup stay on much longer than my usual primers and keeps my oily skin at bay for hours and hours . If you want to look perfect for a night out, this primer will definitely help achieve that goal. For those who aren't oily like me, I think it would also work for dry skin types as well because of how moisturizing it feels on my face. The primer absorbs into the skin easily and just makes everything feel sooooo smooth and silky--my skin has never felt this soft before. It makes makeup glide on easily and it really does help to blur imperfections (like larger pores) and make my skin look more polished. I can definitely tell it makes my smile lines and acne scars look and feel smoother.

I really like the consistency of the primer. It's completely clear and has a very moisturizing, gel texture. Once applied it absorbs into the skin very quickly and doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy. It makes my skin feel perfectly hydrated.
This is the pea sized amount you get from one pump of the makeup primer! The perfect amount for the entire face!
The Reviva Labs Makeup Primer retails for $19.50 for 1 fl.oz of product. The price is much more affordable in comparison to other brands---for example, Smashbox and Laura Mercier both have primers that are over double the cost for the same amount of product.

I really can't say enough good things about this primer! It makes my skin look smooth and feel silky and enhances my makeup application and longevity. It also shockingly, kept my face from getting too oily--something many other primers have failed at. This is definitely a primer I would recommend to everyone! I like my Laura Mercier primers for lighter makeup days but they never really wowed me like this one. If I ever get through the bottle of Reviva labs makeup primer I will most definitely be repurchasing!!

Sultry Smoke Grey and Taupe Look

I've never owned or really worn a matte grey eyeshadow before, so I tried pairing it with some taupey purples to warm it up! I really wanted to do a look using a new L'oreal Infallible eyeshadow (see them here!) so I used the grey "Sultry Smoke" as a base color all over the lid and then piled on the taupes!  I wish it photographed better but I hope you like it!

L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow

It's only been a few days into the new year and I've already found an incredible new drugstore product! These are the new L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadows! There has been a lot of buzz about these new eyeshadows because of their similarity to the Giorgio Amarni Eyes to Kill Eyeshadows. I don't own those eyeshadows so I can't compare them, however these L'oreal ones are very, very impressive!
Check them out!

These are actually the bottom of the pots. They're not the most luxurious packaging, however they do they job! You can easily see what color is inside without having to unscrew every single one!

Inside is a little extra cover/top that I believe is used to keep the shadows pressed and possibly to keep moisture in (just a guess!). These shadows are not your typical powder eyeshadow. They look like a cream shadow but they're actually a pressed pigment!!

L-R Iced Latte, Midnight Blue, Sultry Smoke, Bronzed Taupe
These shadows are soooooooo nice!!! Although they are a pressed pigment, they actually feel like a cream shadow when you touch them. Once you apply them to the skin it is obvious it's a powder--but a very, very smooth and creamy powder. The pigmentation is really quite impressive--I'm always weary of trying drugstore eyeshadows because I've found that the eyeshadows are generally not as pigmented. These really broke that assumption. Here's the colors I got:
Iced Latte- a beautiful warm, shimmery champagne. I cannot resist colors like this!
Midnight Blue-a rich dark blue. the shimmer is really stunning on this one.
Sultry Smoke- this is one of the only mattes I saw (i believe there is a brown one and a cream colored one as well). I don't own any matte grays and I though this one looked really pretty. The texture is wonderful for a matte shadow--it's just as creamy as the other, shimmery ones.
Bronzed Taupe- possibly my favorite! it's exactly that--a taupe with bronze undertones to it. it leans gray, brown, and bronze all at once. it's definitely a must have for taupe lovers ;)

I've only played around with them on my eyes today so I will have to update in upcoming FOTD posts with them! They applied as pigmented to the eyes as they appear in swatches and blended nicely. They claim to last 24 hours without a primer, however I can't imagine ever wearing my eyeshadow for that long! I also ALWAYS wear a primer because my lids are oily. I'm not sure I can attest to the 24 hour claim but I will certainly let you know how these shadows wear!!

I've seen them at a ton of stores near me--Ulta, Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc... It's also incredibly easy to get a good deal on them! I believe they were around 6.99 or 7.99 where I bought mine, however you can always find sales at the drugstore. Look for different coupons and especially buy one get one 50% (or free!) off deals!

What do you think about the L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadows?? Have you tried any of them? If you haven't, I definitely recommend them!! The texture is so unique and the pigmentation is great! Have you discovered any other new makeup items lately?

UPDATE APRIL 2012: although I love the texture and pigmentation of these eyeshadows, they unfortunately do not live up to the long wear claim for my oily eyelids. Without a primer they crease right away and with a primer (I use Nars or Mac Painterly paint pot) they usually last about 5 or six hours on me before creasing. I still really like these shadows but I wouldn't recommend them if you need long wearing eyeshadows and have oily lids! I've been using them for quick outings but not for days where I want my makeup to last all day!

Smokey Gray Blues for New Years Eve!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! New Years Eve is typically a night where everyone goes all out with gold and silver and glitter! I figured I'd use this night to use eyeshadow colors that I don't wear very often: blue!! I'm usually a bit uncomfortable with blue all over the eyes, so I softened it by using more silvery-blue on the lids. I really hope you like this look!! I paired this one with a nude lip (Mac Creme D'Nude) but I also feel like this would have been worked well with a berry lip! Next time ;)
