Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows

Hey everyone! How's the end of February going for you? Last week I picked up two of the Maybelline Color Tattoos that just came out in the last few months. I've heard so many wonderful things about them that when Rite Aid had them buy one get one 1/2 off and I had a $3 coupon, I couldn't resist! I bought two colors, Tough as Taupe and Pomegranate Punk.
Tough as Taupe on left and Pomegranate Punk on the right
It was so difficult to pick out just two colors, but I thought these two looked pretty unique and I don't have anything like them in my collection!
As you can see, they are housed in little glass jars--functional and cute! You can see the color from the bottom (although I forgot to photograph that!). Their packaging is actually quite similar to the Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows (they have identical round, black caps at least!)

They are cream eyeshadows, unlike the L'oreal infallible eyeshadows which are finely packed loose eyeshadow--I've heard many try to compare them since they came out around the same time but they are completely different products. Pomegranate Punk and Tough as Taupe are both very smooth, creamy and opaque in just one swatch--something I was particularly impressed with. They also dry fairly quickly which is something I like in a cream shadow. They really do remind me of my Mac Paint Pots in texture!

Here's the swatches:

Tough as Taupe is a beautiful matte taupe. There's a bit of mauve and grey in there as well and it contains no shimmer. A perfect base to neutral taupe looks!
Pomegranate Punk is a deep rosey burgundy. I think this would be gorgeous with warm browns or pinks.

One thing about the formula is the claim that they will wear for 24 hours. Although I doubt I'll ever need to wear my eyeshadow for 24 hours, I would expect them to wear for a long time. Without an eyeshadow primer, I experienced AWFUL creasing with these. I was pretty disappointed--they didn't even last 2 hours on my oily eyelids before they disappeared. However, once on top of my trusty primer, mac painterly paint pot. they looked freshly applied all day! They also worked over my nars eyeshadow base primer as well. To be honest, I'm not too surprised I needed a primer (since most things I wear on my eyes will crease without one), so I don't mind the extra primer step in my routine!

I really think these cream eyeshadows are wonderful quality. I love using them alone blended on the lid for a simple look or as a base to make powder eyeshadow pop on top of it! For example, try a taupe eyeshadow over Maybelline's Tough As Taupe and it will really make the color look more vibrant!

I believe they retail for roughly $6--but remember to check your drugstore for coupons and sales so you can get an even better deal on them. They are completely worth checking out--especially if you don't want to shell out more money for Mac Paint Pots or Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows. Just remember to have a primer on hand in case they crease on you without one!

Have you tried any of the Maybelline Color Tattoos?? What do you think of them?

Zoya Lael

My next nail of the day is Zoya's Lael, a beautiful deep plum purple!

Pardon the messy application! I took the picture shortly after I applied!

Zoya describes it as "A deep, saturated red-toned plum purple with a shiny creme finish. A rich grape shade for fall glamour."

Formula is great--I did 3 thin coats for full opacity. I think it's a beautiful and simple color for fall and winter. I always love wearing purple nail polish so this one definitely did not disappoint! It's probably not the most unique shade that I own from Zoya but it's beautiful nevertheless. I also love that this color is not so dark that you can't tell it's purple (like some vampy colors can get if they're too dark!).

If you're in need of a good plummy eggplant nail polish, definitely check out Zoya Lael!

Impassioned Pink and Browns

Lately I cannot seem to get enough of winged liner and to my surprise, bright lipsticks! I've been forcing myself to come out of my shell and stop being shy about wearing bright lipsticks! So far it's working! I love the way winged liner looks with bright lipstick--it seems to balance everything out. I used a bit of brown on the eyes since I love the look of chocolate eyeshadow with pink lips!

Mac Runaway Red Lipstick Haul

Wanted to do a quick post about Mac Runaway Red Lipstick from the recent Mac Shop, Cook collection that just came out! I've been on the hunt for a flattering red lipsick for a while now so I made sure to get to the Mac store early today to check out the new collection. Mac Runaway Red is not a new lipstick from Mac (it was last seen in Fall 2011 with the Mac Me Over collection) but it is sadly limited edition--so it could be repromoted in future collections. I'm glad I finally got my hands on ti!

No Flash

Mac Runaway Red is my personal perfect red--it's just the right color that I've been looking for. It's a medium-deep blue-based cranberry red with the slightest touch of pink/fuchsia. It's not too dark, not too bright. It doesn't pull too orange or too blue or too pink on me, it's just a true red. It is a "satin" formula so they are not quite as moisturizing feeling as a cremesheen yet aren't as dry as matte lipsticks. Many people have said they find the satin formula to be drying but I wore this lipstick all day today over lip balm and had no issues whatsoever! I really like the finish as it's not completely matte yet not overly glossy.
Here's a swatch:

I did some comparisons with a few other reds I own. Runaway Red is personally my favorite red I own now--I like my other reds but I find this particular shade more flattering with my skintone and features! I have to admit his comparison isn't very diverse though---most of my lipsticks are from Revlon--one of my all-time favorite brands for lip products as you may already know from reading my blog ;)
Left to Right: Revlon Red Velvet, Revlon True Red, Mac Runaway Red, Revlon In the Red, Revlon Certainly Red, Revlon Cherries in the Snow
whoops cherries in the snow got cut off!

-Red Velvet is not really similar at all--it's deeper and has a touch of berry to it and on the lips looks much more "vampy" than Runaway Red
-True Red is much, much brighter!
-In the Red is not blue based and has more brown/brick tones to it. I still am unsure if I can pull this color off.
-Certainly Red is very similar to True Red (I should probably get rid of one!) as it's a bright red with a touch of orange.
-Cherries in the Snow is not really a red--it's more of a bright fuchsia pink with a touch of red. But you can see how Runaway Red has a touch of the pink that Cherries in the Snow is made up of.
-If you are wondering about how it compares to Mac's infamous Russian Red Lipstick, I swatched them in store---Russian Red is matte and has a bit more orange to it. Runaway Red is deeper as well. I much prefer the touch of fuchsia that Runaway Red contains personally--I find it looks better with my skin tone (to each their own!)! Even though my skin is on the warm side, I find Runaway Red completely brightens my face!

Runaway Red is such a gorgeous, sophisticated red lipstick and one that I can really see myself wearing often. My goal for this year is to be more confident wearing bright lips. I'm excited to get a lot of wear out of this color since it's not overly "loud" for a red lipstick. I wore Runaway Red for at least 4 hours today before it started to fade--and I actually love the way it faded to a nice, even pink-red stain.

Mac lipsticks retail for $14.50--you can buy this particular color at a Mac store or online! It's definitely a color I'd recommend checking out if you are a red lipstick lover or looking for a flattering red to add to your collection! It's limited edition too so you may want to call ahead to a counter or store and make sure they still have it in stock!

What do you think about Runaway Red? Is this a color you'd be interested in? Did you pick anything up anything from the new Mac collections?!

January 2012 Favorites!

I can't believe it's already February! I'm sure everyone says this but time is really flying! I haven't done a "monthly favorites" post in a while so i thought I'd share some products I've really loved throughout the month of January!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed: This blush is a really beautiful, flattering nude pink. It has the perfect amount of brown, pink and plum to give a bit of soft definition to you cheeks. I always reach for it when I'm in a rush, have no idea what to wear, or need something that will compliment a strong eye or lip since it goes with anything. Formula is pigmented and long wearing too. It's an amazing blush and really deserves it's own post (will do that soon!!).

Zoya Kelly: I hope you're not getting sick of hearing me talk about Zoya polishes! They are my favorite! I wore Kelly a few times this month. It's a rich bluish-purplish grey--unique enough that I'm never bored of it yet neutral enough that you can wear it with anything and it will be flattering! You can see my post on Kelly HERE!

Mac Patisserie: This lipstick is a really lovely "my lips but better" shade. It's a pink with a hint of brown and matches my lip color perfectly and makes them look smoother and richer. Now that I'm looking at Tarte Exposed and Mac Patisserie side by side, Patisserie actually reminds me of Exposed in lipstick form! It's a great everyday shade for a natural look and the Lustre formula is very comfortable on the lips!

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Cheers: I have swatches HERE from when I got this in November. It's a bright, creamy raspberry color! I love the colorburst lipgloss formula and the color is very flattering. I like this for a nice pop of color when I don't want to go full out with a bright lipstick!

Covergirl Lashblast Lash Perfection: I NEVER thought I'd the see day--a mascara I like as much as my Covergirl Lashblast volume (orange tube!)??? Yes. I actually don't know which one I like better. I think my original Lashblast may give me a bit more volume, but I like that Lash Perfection gives me volume and a ton of length! Two coats and they're long and defined. I think I prefer it over original Lashblast as an everyday mascara. I don't experience any smudging or flaking either. It's just a fantastic! If you're looking for a new mascara, I definitely recommend trying Lash Perfection or catch a buy one get one free (or 50% off) so you can try out both mascaras! ;)

Boyfriend by Kate Walsh Pulse Point Oil Rollerball: I've gotten really into perfumes the last few months. I believe the concept for this fragrance is to capture the scent of a guy on a girl. That either sounds like it could smell really nice or really questionable. Turns out I really love it. It doesn't smell like "guy" to me really, but it is a very warm and sensual smell. It's spicy, musky, and you can definitely smell warm vanilla. It's very unique! It's not a sweet, girly scent but I still find it very feminine. I just have to be careful not to over apply it because it literally lasts alllll day.  If this sounds like something you'd like, check it out next time you're at a Sephora! I think it's a wonderful fall/winter scent. I also love that I could buy it in rollerball form-- they're less expensive than buying a huge bottle (that I probably won't get through!) and easy to throw in a purse!

L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte: You can see my review and swatches of these eyeshadows HERE! Iced Latte is a shimmery, vanilla champagne. It really became my go-to shade when I'm in a rush. I just apply a bit on the lid with my finger or a flat shader brush, add some mascara and I'm good to go. It's perfect for when you're feeling really tired--I think the champagne color really opens up the eyes. I love the infallible eyeshadows but one thing I wanted to note is that they do crease after an hour or two-however, if I wear a primer (which I almost always do!) they last a bit longer!

Mac 286 Brush: This is a duo fibre blending brush that came out a little while ago with the Mac Naturally collection. It's described as a blending brush for sheer application of eyeshadow (specifically mineralized eyeshadow). So far I've been using this to just blend out eyeshadow in the crease or apply a sheer layer of eyeshadow to the lid and I have to say---I am in LOVE with this brush. It blends eyeshadow effortlessly! Look for a review of this brush soon!

That's all for my January favorites!! Have you tried any of them? What did you love this month??
